Sinead O'Connor converted to Islam and her name is now Shuhada'

We still have Neil Gaiman, at least…

And thank goodness for that; everyone should read his stuff as well.

That’s a textbook case of whataboutism. It’s not a case of either/or being bad, but both. I’m not the U.S. government hypocritically pointing out other state’s failings. Nor am I a nationalist saying the U.S. does no wrong. I despair of the U.S.'s carceral state too. But that’s even more off topic than the original digression.

I mean… so is railing against a billion people in a thread about a single person’s religious journey…

If God can’t stand smart-arses, every one of us here is screwed.

The problem I always had with this entire premise is: Assuming this deity was all-knowing, they’re going to know what you really believe, so the idea of playing the part of a believer is fruitless. Either you really believe or you don’t. And I doubt rationalizing that you should believe because not believing is riskier is going to change your heart-of-hearts on the topic.

Nope, can’t say I did, sadly.

That She is invisible we infer by the fact that we cannot see Her. That She is pink is an article of our faith.

I too, hope that she is happier. I don’t normally care in a more than academic way about celebrities, and I don’t pretend to have been a fan of her music, but her video from a while back where she was clearly in a bad place reached me, and I really empathized with her.

That said, the “old hag” bit is something I’ve heard before, coupled with other sentiments she’s expressed like embracing the hijab. I had a Quaker consider “going Plain” for similar reasons, and she’s expressed the desire to turn into “an old hag.” There’s a sense a lot of women get that the only worth the world immediately evaluates them for is their sexual or aesthetic value. This is where, if you don’t abjectly refuse to listen to what women who like wearing hijab have to say (I mean the general “you,” not you personally, @MBrody), you pick up on why they like it. There’s a sense that they’re liberated from that raft of expectations and assumptions by removing their appearance from the evaluation of others. Whether you agree or disagree with that position and attitude, that’s the wavelength I’m getting from her here, rather than self-hatred. I could be wrong though. I hope I’m not.

I think she misunderstood the part about feminists in Islam getting stoned all the time.

Can someone please find a Ru Paul/Flying Spaghetti Monster mashup?
Thanks in advance.

Tall order.

That one might be beyond even me, but there’s always Rule 35;

“It if does not already exist, you must make it.”

Good rule, certainly nicer than #35.
I’m away from my tools, I’ll have to make a note.
