Why would you want to place the ‘compositional center’ of an image in the visual center of the frame? Why???
A successful/artful/well-composed image makes your eye move around. No, centering bad. Balancing good.
If you are automatically generating thumbnail images, eg. for a website? There are some software libraries for doing it: https://codegeekz.com/cropping-images-entrop/
this looks like some o’l bullshit.
The image that illustrates this post does not have a center, per se, but two of them. And it’s slightly naughty.
Why is this so hard? The center is in the middle. There, I just saved you 100 hours of coding.
Off center is far more interesting, when it comes to basic composition.
