Its because imperial measurements are naturally better suited to common quantities of prison contraband. I mean who orders a kilo of bluetooth headphones?
As you may have noticed, the US has a strong resistance to positive changes.
That decimal system of measurements may be easy to use, internally consistent, and the system used by almost every other country in the world, but it’s not what my grandpappy used, I might have to use my frickin’ brain a little, and it’s the system used by almost every other country in the world. Also, socialism.
I use metric for most things because I’m a stubborn person who’s determined to drag the US forward into the 19th Century. What really bothers me is when I have to convert for my doctor.
I find the numbers they spew forth on the value of the drugs they sieze to be especially dubious.
It looks like they take the street price of, say, a joint & extrapolate it up to the weight that was siezed.
(What does a joint sell for, these days? I stopped buying weed when it was $15-20/oz…)
As we all know, there is a huge difference between wholesale & retail price on everything.
Better yet: use base 2 measurements instead of base 10 metrics. That’s the problem with being born with 10 fingers.
But one step at a time I suppose. Just get the miles, feet, and inches out of our vernacular and I’ll be happy.
Have you watched Breaking Bad?
But if you sold nothing but dime bags to 12 year olds… IT’S BILLION$, PROBABLY!
