Hang on, this explains so much. Stan Jones and Paul Karason weren’t taking colloidal silver to buck the ‘traditional’ medical system, they were probably just LARPing an early beta of the Smurf RPG.

My local library’s monthly game night will be the Quick Start Adventure for the Smurfs. (The librarian wants to give us something light before early November…) Looking at the player sheet, it doesn’t look too dissimilar to the light-on-stats play of Tales of Equestria. It should be a Smurf-tacular time!
Well, Gargamel only created one. Then Sassette was created by the Smurflings in a later season. Female Smurfs don’t seem to be necessary for Smurf reproduction. I think Smurfs just exist.

I thought they were eusocial, like ants, bees and wasps.
Papa Smurf is the drone, the other smurfs are the workers and not actually male, and there is an unseen queen. Gargamel didn’t understand this when he created Smurfette.
Also unseen are the yearly rituals where the worker smurfs force the old Papa Smurf out into the winter cold to die, then get a new Papa Smurf in the spring.

This is often unsettling for the neighbors. Worship of St. Sedum has largely died out, as few worshipers were willing to lop off a toe to grow the ranks.

Of course from that image it looks like they’ve already got their own RPG. Hmm. All six siders, could be GURPS, but the dice are in pairs? Oh! They’re playing TOON! How appropriate.

I can’t believe they didn’t include Sassette, the only other canon female smurf. That’s kind of a major oversight.
Smurflily, Smurfblossom and Smurfstorm have been canon for seven years now.
I was at that live show, and the game looks absoluetly delightful
