Not quite as terrifying as a bagpipe, but a shofar in the hands of someone who knows how to use it is quite as carrying as a trumpet and there’s a whole language of signals from antiquity that have been preserved to this day.

Our Rabbi makes a pilgrimage to Auschwitz every year for a remembrance ceremony. He takes the Shofar with him. Just the thought of that sound in that place gives me the deepest of chills.

I thank them for their bravery.

We have to find a better way to make effective protest. I’m not sure if taking the the streets is the most effective use of our time. Protest allow is not going to produce the results that society and politics requires.

Also known as the remorseful coward’s lament.
