I heard it was, in fact, not snakes but bats. Well, I say ‘heard’ … it was more like echo-located.

Are they resting the snakes on paper to try and get scaleprints?
A pillowcase is the closest thing most people have lying around to an opaque cloth sack, so really they’re ideal for transporting snakes.
You should really tie a knot in the pillowcase and put it inside a cardboard box too.
