Indeed. Was expecting to watch the trailer and think ‘OMG steaming pile of ordure’, but ended up mildly interested. Popcorn movie - disengage brain and enjoy.
Of course my son now thinks I’ve lost yet another marble and has prescribed Detective Pikachu as the remedy…
I’m happy to “disengage brain” for a goofy videogame movie featuring a scenery-chewing Jim Carrey, but not with that horrific take on Sonic. No kid or anyone who’s played a Sonic game (I think I just described their entire intended audience) will want to sit through that.

Or an arranged version of almost any music from the games. Instead we get the same intro from Gangsta’s Paradise looped over and over. Remember when Coolio protested Weird Al’s Amish Paradise because he believed his song was too serious for parody? Yeah, me neither.

I’m going to have to go with the Japanese/EU versions of the intro and credits, probably because it’s most familiar to me and a comfort blanket.
The director has announced that they’re going to redesign Sonic after the outcry.

I feel really really bad for everyone at every one of the contracted VFX studios who are going to get the full video game experience by pulling 6 months of non-stop crunch for obscene hours to make this happen.
