Any adult who knows about this ahead of time will just cross the state line to buy their hardware. South Carolina isn’t a real big state, and there’s mail order too. So the main effect is to drive away business. Good job, GOP, the pro-business party. (Cf: North Carolina HB2.)

How would a “porn blocking filter” work? Does he imagine a filter that scans for naked bodies, or would it block flagged websites?

This ridiculous law might prevent the horror of a teenager seeing boobs, but computers hobbled by the South Carolina Filter would have entire sections of the internet off limits.

If every man woman and child paid the fee, it would amount to $96 million. With that budget, you actually might stand a chance of developing a porn filter that actually works. Of course, since it will be made by the lowest bidder, it has no chance of working.

Wipe and load Windows, why not? My bet is that there’s more kinds of porn that only works on Windows (pornographic games, for example).

Really splitting hairs I suppose. Your tastes would have to be very specific for OS to start mattering in a giant universe of pr0n.
