I was in the Kröller-Müller museum last weekend where they have a 1972 replica of this piece. Amazing artist!
And yes, I too was wondering what these artists would have been capable of with modern equipment like 3D printers and digital modelling.

Some of Chihuly’s glass already looks like virtual reality
Soon I will be able to get to a gallery – can’t wait.
I recommend https://www.clipconverter.cc which will let you go up to 4K
Love Chihuly’s work - his exhibition at Kew Gardens in London was fabulous. But if you like glass, I came across this documentary on NHK World the other day, Japanese glass artisan called Kuniaki Kuroki - his gallery is on my list for the next time I get to Japan for sure!:
Just amazing.
Found another Magic The Gathering player.
This was like, Elemental Elemental. Summon Cost, 10 of every type of mana. Legendary Creature.
Yeah, I was deep in that for years…
Oh damn, he recreated Rinpa school scenery in glass, including the incredible black stream on gold.
Holy shit that guy is skilled!
@anon33176345, did not know that artist. Reminds of Isamu Noguchi crossed with Giocametti. Cool
Yup, pretty awesome - the Hokusai wave was something else
Thank you so much, that documentary was inspiring. Seeing Ogata Korin’s themes in glass really makes them sing.
Chihuly’s chandelier at the V&A is worth looking at if you get the opportunity.
Indeed. Most of his sculptures were destroyed after his death.
It appears some of them have been recreated using 3D modelling and printing.
Most welcome - I spend way too much time watching NHK World, mostly travel shows, making plans for when I can visit there next!
Will definitely get to the V&A to see that one, thanks.
