@markfrauenfelder, you should be careful when posting dire warnings from a study without posting credible sources that contradict that study. People have been saying sperm counts are getting lower for a long time, but some studies find that this “truth” is motivated by people looking to push certain agendas. Also, we should remember that not every study is from an ethical source. Scientists trying to get grant money are susceptible to bias and outright fudging the data to create a conclusion that could get that funding and make a name for themselves in their respective communities.
I don’t know if this study you posted is right or wrong, but there are studies from credible sources, like the one linked below, that contradict that assertion and should be included in your post.
It’s not all doom and gloom, friends!
As anxious as the Know-Nothing 27% are about having their freedums to “roll coal” and smoke and drank taken away by the libruls, they’re equally worried about “white genocide” and “the Great Replacement”.
gotta wonder if the harvard review board contemplated that headline/URL over more than a single sip o’ tea. (“i blame the sampling time came right previous to no nut november”)
Further, the claims of decline were based on a “species optimum” of Anglophone developed nations of the 1970s, which the researchers argued was scientifically unsound. The GenderSci Lab team warned that this kind of Eurocentric focus has been used by alt-right, white supremacist, and men’s rights activists to argue that the health and fertility of men in Western nations is being threatened, particularly by feminist and anti-racist movements.
I would note that the paper you cite is not taking issue with the data, but with the interpretation and particularly the application that it is being put to. I have yet to see anyone suggesting that the decline is not happening, merely arguing over what it means.
CHRM TRAILZ… in all seriousness it’s probably chemicals like PFAS etc. Just assume all the conspiracy folks will ascribe to malice what should be ascribed to ignorance.
Let’s quit with the population discussion. That’s a whole separate thing.
Mammals being involuntarily chemically sterilized (or tending that way), whether intentionally or not, is NOT a good thing. Period. And that’s very likely what we’re seeing.
It’s also the wrong way to go about it. The strongest predictors of birth rates in a country are women’s rights & autonomy, education, and quality of life of the populace overall. Improve those things and birth rates decrease.
