I always thought the thing about crying when cutting onions was like a myth or meme or something. Something akin to breaking a mirror and getting seven years bad luck; chop an onion and you’ll cry
I mean, it clearly didn’t actually happen bacause I chopped onions all the time and have never cried while doing it
It was only in my late 30s that I had an eye infection and had to wear glasses full time for a week or two and kept blubbering in the kitchen during meal prep. Turns out onions don’t affect your eyes if you wear contact lenses, and I had been wearing contacts longer than I’d been cooking for myself (mid-teens)
So yeah, wear contact lenses if you don’t want to be affected by the onion vapours. They’re like eye condoms, I guess
