That’s a good argument for UBI at anytime, but, as you imply, it’s more efficient (and more fun) to give the money directly to the wealthy rather than routing it through the extraneous 99% .
Also, if people are not in a constant state of anxiety over how they will feed and shelter their families, they may start thinking about structural changes to the economic system.

and, for landlords at least, low income renters are more profitable than higher income renters.

I’ve lived in a pickup truck and can tell Mr. Mnuchin that it’s only possible if you are single, have no medical bills, your insurance is paid up, AND if the cops do not arrest you for parking where they think you should not. Once the law gets you, then the entire $1200 is blown for towing, fines, and probation fees.
For the overwhelming majority of Americans, be they born or volunteered, this is simply not possible or feasible.

My ex and my friends mock me because when things like the 1 million march on Area 51 go viral … or if there is a movie or tv scene where a bunch of humans show up to protest the first thing I say is “where is the poop gonna go”.
When I was homeless the fear of “where is the next place I can go to the bathroom ?” and “where can I throw away my garbage/feces ?” took up so much of my emotional consciousness that it left a huge mark on my brain.
So many basic things become absolute minute to minute concerns that I don’t think people understand the flex that puts on the ability to be normal.
