I was gonna do this this year until the pandemic hit! I have 2.5 pounds of bismuth, a thrift store stainless pot, and even got a 2 burner electric burner for use outside side or in a garage. I was going to try to make bismuth geodes with the kiddo.

Maybe next year.

Dare I ask ‘why’? I mean, suppose your supply of Pepto-Bismal runs out?

Wow. What a simple way of making something beautiful!

Will give it a shot. Thanks fore sharing.

But think of the upset tummies!

I’ve done this (not well, but did it).

One thing that I’ve noted is that you get better crystals if you slow the cooling as much as possible. I melted mine in a steel can in the forge, then let it slowly cool, using the thermal mass of a sealed forge to slow the cooling. I suppose a bucket of vermiculite or wood ash would work decently to insulate the sides and bottom.

Why can’t you do it this year? You’ve still got a little more than a week.
