Survey: Self-identified "pro lifers" are generally contemptuous of women

Clearly greater freedom is incompatible with being a woman! /s

I never wanted children. I didn’t want to go through adolescence again.

Consider the following analogy: one common side effect of certain cancer drugs is a build up of Candida (a fungal infection) in the intestines. Easy enough to treat, but there’s a period of time during which the patient will feel A LOT worse as the infection dies out, leaving toxic waste, which takes a while to be purged from the system.

Not saying that. Just saying that it explains the unhappiness. It comes with the territory. The more equality in opportunity, the more that a sink or swim dynamic arises. It is stressful competing in the workplace when you’re a man or a woman, especially if you have kids. And it is much more stressful when you’re competing against the entire population whereas in the past, men were only competing with half of the population for jobs. Men may have a structural advantage as a hangover from the past, but that is being eroded.

Most women will tell you, despite there being more opportunity for women, there really isn’t quite anything approaching equality in the work place. And when they do get opportunities, we often have to deal with more bullshit, including, but not limited too sexual harassment, constantly having to fight twice as hard for the exact same respect as men, constant micro-aggressions and condescending attitudes.

And women are still disproportionately the ones in charge of the kids welfare, even if both parents have a full time job, not to mention still doing the lion’s share of at home, unpaid labor (cooking, cleaning).

It’s not in the past. It’s still very much with us, with hard fought victories constantly being eroded on a daily basis.

[ETA] And women, in almost every single field out there, almost always get paid far less then men - one recent example:

Little did Perlman’s character know…

Here are a few other confounding results from the survey.

  • 60% of black women believe that now is a good time to be a white woman. Only 48% of black women think that now is a good time to be a man.

  • 53% of Latinx women believe that now is a good time to be a white woman. Only 48% of them believe that now is a good time to be a man.

  • 49% of AAPI women believe that now is a good time to be a white woman. Only 44% of them think that it is a good time to be a man.

  • 53% of men think it’s a good time to be a white woman and 53% of them also believe that it’s a good time to be a man.

The only party in the survey who believe that it is better to be a man than a white woman are white women. Everyone seems a little jealous of white women, but only 37% of white women believe that now is a good time for them.

Another pattern is that in general, everyone thinks that they have it rougher than other people think they have it… except for men. 53% of men think that now is a good time for them, but the women don’t agree- i.e. not as many of them think that now is good for men.

Huh, who would’ve thought.
