This is… not surprising. I’ve read stories about people released after being arrested for auto theft who then stole a car to get home.
NM has a lot of small towns (and even some small-town papers!) where the “Luiz is back in front of the magistrate for ____ again, dear” is pretty common breakfast conversation. It doesn’t take a lot of people to have one who’s a chronic problem.
Socorro is fairly big as NM goes, but we have the paper and the “___ is back in court” celebrities.
