Now that’s some tea!

I used to order from Porto Rico in New York: loose tea in bulk, and I’d use a small strainer to make each cup. I’ve had trouble finding loose bulk tea (at a reasonable price, anyway) locally. I keep a box of Tetley Masala-flavored tea (from Amazon) at work, but they also have Bigelow there.

P.S. We used to keep this around the house:

We still have some, in fact. I guess my wife got tired of it because we aren’t going thru it like we used to. It says Iran on the box; not sure how they got around the embargo but we’ve bought it for years.

Also: it helps to seek out an Indian (or Persian or Middle-Eastern or halal) grocery nearby - unfortunately the one nearest to me (and where I first found the Tetley Masala) closed up shop.

But are you brewing the tea at exactly the right temperature and duration? :imp:

I’m more of a coffee kind of guy, but if I am drinking tea, Luzianne is where it’s at. Throw your Lipton in the trash and then load it up with sugar for some sweet tea or make an Arnold Palmer with some lemonade… Now I am homesick. Louisiana does cheap better than your mid-range. Hold on while I fantasize about hopping on a Southwest Flight to drink some Community Coffee before I have a spearmint sno ball.

It’s interesting having people that really love their tea in here, i wanted to see if anyone might know exactly what tea blend this black tea is. I have done some searches online and could not nail down what it is. Still it’s a black tea i really really like though i don’t drink it often because of how strong it is.

Also my dad went to india years and years ago and i threatened him not to come home without some tea, what he brought is really really close to the kind that’s pictured. Quality may have been better but i’ve been trying to figure out what i drank back then was without much success.

Pretty much this. I just posted something in the comments here about trying to find a tea i had years ago that my dad got in India, the pakistani shopkeeper suggested a brand to my mom and we were happy that it was a really close match to what we wanted. Highly recommend looking for tea at local ethnic stores, or at least getting suggestions from the people there. They know whats up.

I remember delving into those when a discussion at work about what “nominal” meant when dealing with a product quantity – it was one of the better sources that I found.

I’m partial to Green and Green/Jasmine mix myself. Usually get it from the local asian supermarket, for ~$4/150g. Couldn’t tell you the brand name, as it’s in Chinese, but it’s tasty!

I did some research also and wasn’t able to pin it down with certainty. I can tell you that it’s a blend of black tea varieties and it’s considered a Kenyan blend. This hints at plenty of Ceylon being in the mix. However, they import some of their teas from India so it could also have Assam, Darjeeling, Munnar, Kangra, or Nilgiri (or some combo; list derived from Wikipedia).

If you haven’t tried a Ceylon, I’d give that a go. I haven’t had Tapal’s Danedar but based on some things you mentioned and my own experience with Ceylon varieties, I think Ceylon or Nilgiri are likely major components of what you found intriguing (*adds Nilgiri to my shopping list*).

As others have noted (and I’m not going to research hard enough to confirm :laughing: ), Assam is a major component in some teas you’re likely already familiar with. Same for Darjeeling likely.

I’m not sure how many cups of Pu’er I’ve had out of this thing, but it seems like a lot and I’m only half way through.

I’m a wuss because I like it iced. Herbal teas have a weird aftertaste and make my teeth feel fuzzy. I really dislike the taste of green teas, too.

Basically, I drink coffee.

I’ve always been a hot tea drinker and not much at knowing the different sources. I tend to favor Twinings Irish or English Breakfast teas. Seems like the Irish has a bit more caffine and the English a bit better flavor. I’d like something with the caffine punch as long as it doesn’t taste like a boiled truck tire… Suggestions from anyone of you who are more knowledgeable. Brand names …good infusers if not tea bags??? Oh yeah I sweeten my tea with honey I suspect that may not be what a real tea drinker should do but there ya go…Basically I’m a heathen and almost devoid of couth
