I am really glad that someone brought up the fact that lapsang suchong is like DRINKING A CIGAR
Edit to include something positive: Typhoo! Weak enough that it doesn’t matter if you’re out of milk.

Hey, sometimes tea is just… tea, you know?
I’ve been drinking lapsang souchong for several years now – smoked black tea which smells something like a rope that’s been sitting on a hot dock in the sun all afternoon. I’ve found I can get a five-pound bag from an outfit called ‘English Tea Store’ (I think) for sixty-odd dollars. It’s loose tea and I suggest letting it soak and get really powerful. Go black and you won’t go back.
Mate, that’s only about ten cups a week?!
I think I usually manage that in a day (and yes, these twitches are entirely normal).
So… it turns out that there are a lot of people with strong opinions about tea on BoingBoing…
First, I typed “Earl” by mistake. Second, it has some very subtle flavors that Earl doesn’t have and so you don’t necessarily have to use sugar or lemon. I believe it’s more mellow (some might say bland?), which can be it good for generic iced tea. Finally, if you’re colorblind, then, yes, the medium blue packaging is pink.
eta: genetic =/= generic
Ten cups of that tea per week. They’ve got tea at work!
Tea - one of those exceedingly rare topics that can evoke this much passion without turning into a verbal knife fight in less than 50 posts
Its a great way to be persona non grata at the Tea house as well. I love doing that… But I’m an IRL troll.
I thought it was something on PBS.
I used to go to a coffee house that had those in a gumball machine. They called them “buzz balls.” I bought a handful at lunch once, and went back to work, where co-workers noticed I was really pounding on the keyboard.
Same here. I’ll make a big mug (1/2 of a French press, or 1/8 c. of grounds) in the morning and drink tea thereafter. On weekends I’ll make an exception and fill up the whole press.

Funny; I’ve described yerba mate as drinking a cigarette. But regarding lapsang suchong and yerba mate: I didn’t not like it.
I bought an enormous grill at Sears once because the salesdude was gorgeous.
PG Tips. The Brits know their English Breakfast tea and it’s not $9 for a couple of ounces.
But if you do need to pay that much get yourself over to the Dushanbe Tea House in Boulder or the Huckleberry in Louisville and get the Boulder Breakfast Tea. It’s delicious!
I find Earl Grey pretty mellow anyway but then I only drink the hot stuff. Every day’s a schoolday!
Barry’s. One bag in my 2 cup pot is perfect.
I’m drinking Earl Grey right now, after two cups of English Breakfast… because I somehow managed to let us run out of coffee between subscription deliveries. Waaaahh. I like tea, but I’ve been drinking coffee since I was a child, so it feels wrong to go without it.
The tea is staving off the caffeine withdrawal headache, though, which is good. The last time I actually did go a day without I had a headache that felt like a description of a migraine, with visual auras plus light and sound sensitivity. It made me grateful I don’t get migraines like my sisters, and my mom.
'Course, I also gave out tons of free cups, because I thought they were overpriced. For some teas, it cost more to get a brewed cup than it did to buy a pound. Yikes!
Try Teapigs https://www.teapigs.co.uk/ or Whittards https://www.whittard.co.uk/ if they’ll ship locally
I forgot to mention, what you sweeten it with and how much of course plays a big role. I use Sugar in the Raw or turbinado sugar.
I’ve had coffee there and thought it was pretty good. $60/kilo for tea is a little rich for my blood.
