Tech CEO in racist restaurant rant

The sad part is that this kind of hatred doesn’t spring out of nowhere. Many people have the embers smoldering in the dark corners of their brains. Those embers can be stomped out as the dangers they are if they are caught early, but the trump/fox/right-wing cult are adding fuel and fanning them into flames. Please get these people out of power.

Also, what kind of idiot to you have to be to be in the “Tech” field, but not have a clue how the internet works.

It doesn’t work that way from a startup that’s pre-VC funding. The startup just dies and all the angel investors lose their investment and that’s the end, and he also loses whatever he has committed to it also. I couldn’t clearly see where his startup is, but I think there would be some mention of VCs if he had any, so this means the startup is probably dead and the chance of him starting another one and gaining traction and momentum is low. There’s no golden parachute for this guy, again, unless I’m wrong and he’s far enough along with VC funding rounds.

And let’s remember…
Entrepreneur - from the French, entre meaning “between” and the verb prendre, or “take” => Between-taker

I would prefer to leave a share of the responsibility with the racist asshole themselves. Because it is entirely possible to arrive at the conclusion that racism is ridiculously wrong through looking at things and pondering them a bit. It’s not even totally hard. What may be harder is to unlearn racist thoughts and actions.

Can we take a minute just to appreciate the waitress here as well?

There’s a fair amount of built in pressure in jobs like that that you’re meant to be courteous and neutral to everyone, no matter how shitty they’re being (the customer is always right kind of thing). She doesn’t take that approach, doesn’t mince her words, and goes all in against Lofthouse.

Deserves kudos for that.

If Solid8 is a publicly traded company he may serve at the pleasure of the board if he either doesn’t own a controlling interest or the company’s charter allows the other directors to fire him for certain conduct.

If Solid8 is a private company then its clients should boycott the company and tank it.

It’s impossible to know, but seeing as how individuals can raise children to either hate or empathize, I’d have to agree. There are certainly circumstances in human evolution such as famine or resource scarcity that developed distrust between different groups of people, but I find it very hard to believe we are hardwired for it. Indeed, watching children play, it’s nearly impossible to make that assumption without a predisposed bias.

I am also firmly of the belief that the old adage “children are cruel” is utter horseshit. Kids can be taught to be cruel, but I’ve never met an inherently cruel child. Hence my disbelief in a predisposition to hatred. We are taught to hate.

The nopology is a zero-effort boilerplate. It would be almost less embarrassing for him if he plagiarized it, but most likely some bored low-level PR flak wrote it for him.

Something to note, even folks who are completely anti-racist have racist thoughts and feelings (myself included) because they are so systemic in our culture. It’s a lifelong process to recognize these. And you can’t just will them away, but the more you can identify these in yourself, the more you can decide not to feed them further and not to act on them. Without those they begin to wither away.

I don’t know if this guy sincerely wants not to be racist - I strongly suspect his apology is just PR, given his Trumpism - but his example shows exactly how NOT to combat internalized racist thoughts and feelings.

Garbage people with money.
Online apologies are rendered meaningless and cold these days.
Pretty soon the wealthy will plead insanity because of the neurological effects wealth has had on their psyches, rendering them innocent of hate crimes.

Oh, he apologized once his identity was rumbled. Well then. Roses and high-fives all around. /s

Wealth isn’t tied to merit. “Deserve” is an abstract that doesn’t apply. What metric would someone use to determine what is deserved? Who gets to decide? I’m sure they feel they deserve their wealth, and their opinion is the only one that matters to them. re: Trump, et al.

The game is rigged, and the people who tend to hoard the wealth can be considered the least deserving when you take a good look at them and what they choose to do with the freedom that wealth gives them.
