In the US, guns are in an evolutionary competition with human beings. And at the moment they’re winning.
But people also keep cats…cold eyed predators with no redeeming features that give people a brain infection.
Guns and cats have both evolved mechanisms to make use of human stupidity and protect their ecological niches.
My solution is that we start work on evolving birds to be able to carry and use miniaturised air-to-ground missiles. The armaments companies are completely amoral so they will be delighted to supply the missiles.

In fact at the time of the Second Amendment the US wasn’t a very rich country, and as guns were expensive before mass production only the rich had them. So the drafters of the Amendment had in mind that the militia of people like them was available to protect their interests. They never envisaged poor people having guns.
If Scalia hadn’t treated the Constitution like the Hassidim treat Torah, he’d have seen that.

Actually, “Teen didn’t want to wake up and go to school, shoots family” isn’t a bad meme for the Out contingent of the British EU referendum. Look at them all; stuck in adolescence and not wanting to have to go to nasty Europe where they will have to collaborate with other people and sometimes do as they’re told. So their solution is to do something that will cause an exodus of manufacturing jobs and a financial collapse in the hope that this will magically solve their problems.
