What’s the plan after the library is closed? Destroy the books and turn the building into the local Republican Party HQ?

Well, when you can’t read, I guess one could mistake one word for the other. :man_shrugging:

Keep 'em stupid and compliant. Feature, not a bug.

I wonder how many anti-book states will fall foul of their own state constitutions.

This kind of assumes they give a damn about laws and such. They have shown precious little interest in such things as they seek their authoritarian strongman ruler. I guess we shall see…

Free book larnin’ for the masses: the greatest threat to conservatives everywhere.

Here’s an I idea: if you don’t like the books, don’t read them. Or better yet, do read them and then add to the conversation with more speech about why you disagree with them (…or, heaven forbid, maybe even change your mind after you read them).

Also, I’m in complete agreement that we shouldn’t be hosting porn in our public libraries, but if “I Need a New Butt” is your standard for what is porn, then you really need to get out more.

I’ve been through west Texas at ground level (meaning not by gasoline power, so it took some time) and the amount of “liberals are out to get us” thinking is astounding.

Can’t blame Llano County on West Texas. Llano is just a 90 minute drive to Austin.

they don’t need the liberals. with what’s going on in some of these states, they are screwing themselves thoroughly. the consequences, of course, is that other people start thinking that these are good ideas. and that is what’s going on now. by the way, in NYC (where i live) the NYPD announced today they are getting some robot dogs. “for security”. see, bad ideas take on a life of their own.

This is true. But the most often repeated idea I was exposed to on my way across was a variation on “we just want to be left alone”.

That is not the way of intolerant people. They reject the very existence of what they hate or just don’t like.

The inability of people to leave others alone is how we got here. Powerful people are fueling their ability to do something about it, instead of just complaining.

This is one of the methods they use to get folks on board with attacking others. They convince them that they have to fight back or strike first against groups that have done nothing to them. That’s why asking them how they were personally harmed is a strategy for getting them to rethink the situation.

I mean, there is a subtext in “We just want to be left alone” – which is “I don’t need enlightenment.” They just don’t know how to express it in words. :man_shrugging:
