I was going to comment about my surprise on the lack of CD burnings (a la Dixie Chicks), but then, are there CDs to burn anymore?

Which is causing me an odd existensial dread. What will future people pile-and-burn when everything is digital. No books, no CDs, are “bonfires of X going” to be DLC. Crap, it will be NFTs won’t it.

Ugh.

Oh, so you mean like Lee Greenwood, Charlie Daniels, or Jason Aldean, right? I assume this fool has also purchased memorabilia from those entertainers and destroyed them in a publicly violent way as part of a “lighthearted statement” too, right?

When people do things like this and it’s down played as “wasn’t meant to be mean or malicious” it goes a long way towards explaining why sanewashing is so easy to accomplish.

but no one got him to say it was Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Harris which drove the old gentleman to hammer a valuable guitar? (“gotta be it, yes?” “…suppose so, but it does leave one wondering on the state of schools of journalism” “pfff… s’all AI, now isn’t it?”)

So, “Shut up and dance dribble sing?” Yeah, all the usual “Rights for me but not for thee” bullshit.

Your daily reminder that for these asshats, your right to free expression begins and ends with “agree with me.”

I’m astonished anyone has that sort of money to spend on a (maybe not) celeb signed guitar. And even more astonished anyone has that sort of money to spend on a (maybe not) celeb signed guitar and then hit it with a hammer.

I’m astonished that anyone thought they could get an instrument used by one of the most popular artists in the world for that little. A genuine, used by Taylor Swift guitar with provenance would sell for 10 times that much, at least.
This is just more performative idiocy, along with destroying your Carhartts and coffee makers.

So the non-profit got $4k, Taylor Swift had no real involvement in this, and the guy who smashed the guitar is out $4k and a guitar.

I don’t see a downside here except from the guitar’s perspective and the perspective of whoever on the janitorial staff had to clean up the pieces. A fool and his money …

He then looked as though he was about to smash it on the ground, before the audition’s host stopped him.

Geeze, does no one proof read posts any more? If there are no red spell check squiggles, then send it.

Also, a lot of those signed items like that are fake. But real or not, $4000 is a lot for a performative stunt. I guess it’s nice to have money to burn.

… just so nobody else who also forgot about these things has to look them up:

I guess the only people really hurt by this are the ones who actually wanted the item, got outbid, then had to see the winner destroy the thing right in front of them. That’s a shitty move.
But the apologists claiming that publicly smashing something with a hammer isn’t meant maliciously, or pretending this is a “light-hearted” display are not fooling any of us back here, I imagine.
