Texas Republican says vaccines are "sorcery"

Homer: “Marge, please, old people don’t need companionship. They need to be isolated and studied, so it can be determined what nutrients they have that might be extracted for our personal use.”

Marge: “Homer, would you please stop reading that Ross Perot pamphlet?”

I swear, every time I look at that picture, all I can think is that’s it’s straight from Hollywood casting for “lunatic conspiracy theorist.” He’s on a tv show, where the director just told him, “OK, now look more arrogant as you’re describe the most insane theory ever to the protagonist.”

Please… I’ve known plenty of people with associate degrees from community colleges who are plenty smart and aware of the importance of vaccinations, and some people with advanced degrees from top universities who think they are bunk. How about we not malign people trying to better themselves based on political charged comments by an ideologically driven individual.

Parental rights come with parental responsibilities - such as preventing the spread of a range of entirely-preventable biblically-approved diseases.

Off-topic, but I would pay good money for a Harry Potter remake, directed by Sam Raimi and starring Bruce Campbell, etc.

my many years of reading 1950s science fiction has let me in on the secret, evidently there was a nuclear war about 5-7 generations ago and we are trying to rebuild civilization.

I think about this all the time. Almost all of us here now have never had to go through the horror and hell that was the first part of the 20th century. Those that did are starting to disappear, so there is nobody to sound the warning about, or express the need for, things like the dangers of where intolerance leads, the value of a liberal education, and yes, even the revolutionary effects of vaccination on the health of the human animal. It’s scary.

This is the agony of aging, summed up. Watching what for me are cultural touchstones fade to irrelevance. Hell, most of my daughters’ generation (they are 21 and 30) do not remember a world prior to 9/11. That is a whole way of thinking that I am not comfortable with, and I suspect where some of the generational conflict comes in. They are “meh” as to the importance of democratic government and pretty OK with an authoritative type of government as long as it is left-leaning. Of course, with what they have seen in their lifetimes, I can understand that. It is kinda sad, though. (And totally off topic. Sorry about that!)
