Bruce Campbell rather than the Ash Williams character? Ash does have that little problem with spell-casting…
Let’s keep our tropes straight here…
That’s Gandalf, not Dumbledore.

I’m pretty sure it’s magneto
Hi, Dr. Nick!
FTFY
Maybe for someone who’s time traveled from the 1800’s.
It used to be that a significant chunk of their revenue came from people that paid for AOL service on top of broadband, thinking that they still needed AOL for “internet”.
Haven’t read about that in years. Used to be that when you canceled your service, they would strongarm you into a “broadband” plan or some shit where you paid 5 bucks a month to gain access to the AOL internet portal, news, etc. It was very difficult to fully cancel service.
off topic. I know, i know…
Dentist, not physician, but the basic idea remains.
Bonus: Lisa’s “Yellow Submarine” trippy sequence while under anesthesia:
Yesterday I called XInfinity to tell them I am moving and need to cancel my service (the only one I could get at my house because, Monopoly).
XF: Oh Sir, you have been with us for 10 years. How about if we offer you…
ME: No. Already signed up for new service at my new place.
XF: Would you like to transfer your account to someone remaining in your house?
ME: I sold my house. New owners are on their own.
XF: Would you like our new XFinity mobile service.
ME: NO!
XF: Would you like…
ME: NO! NO! NO! I would not like green eggs and ham.
XF: Excuse me sir?
ME: Just cancel my service.
XF: Ok. Sir if there are any products you would like to hear about before…
ME: [Hangs up]
ETA: Actual call time was 10 minutes on hold and 30 minutes getting product offers flung at me one after another.
Not meaning to be pedantic,
but I think you mean The Frantics.
Ti Kwan Leap is a “boot to the head”
Not a movie Jet Li led.
(I’ll see myself out now.)
On the one hand, we should not body shame. On the other, “Sig Sauerkraut-packing chud” is virtuoso-level insulting.
Hang on I think we are being too fast on judgement. I mean how does sticking needles in you prevent evil spirits from attacking you. That sounds like sorcrrcy too me and what about the miasma?
I think we need all need to remember to be healing power of leaches. That will fix this.
I think it’s a deeper issue than simply a lack of generational memory. For example, the Baby Boomer and subsequent generations rarely remember the scourges of polio and small pox yet there’s an entire subculture emerging that openly despises knowledge in such a way that it treats it like black magic. There’s little in the way of excuses behind the reasoning beyond, “if I can’t grasp it then it must be untrue.” Or worse still, “if you can’t explain it then you must be a liar and want to harm me” is another thought process I’ve seen at work. Mind you, these are the kinds of folks who treat computers like magic wish boxes. As a developer I deal with this too much to the point I want to just go back to being a grocery clerk.
I remember hearing about a report of a teenager in one African country who built a windmill out of some junk and an electric motor used to charge a battery so he could read at night. Apparently, some of the locals blamed him for “blowing away the clouds” and they were going to lynch him but UN food relief came in time. Wild what people believe no matter what the facts show otherwise.
It does go deeper, but horrors like the Depression, WWII, polio, etc. dying out of living memory give bad actors an opening they wouldn’t have had before. This is because the people they’re targetting do operate mainly from the experiences of themselves or those they know.
So a decade ago, an unsophisticated or ignorant person saying that this Texas moron has a point might have been slapped down by grandma talking about her childhood friend who was stuck in an iron lung. The person would have listened to grandma about the benefits of the Salk vaccine because in his limited mindset she had more authority than this politician. But now grandma isn’t around to do that.
The use of that font makes it even more aweful than the other versions I have seen.
Well not that you referenced it, we have to share it so that every one can get the joke. This is a fantastic sketch that I remember hearing on Dr Demento.
