They were my audience stand-in characters when I was a kid. I identified with Scooter and Casper in a way I didn’t with members of the Hong Kong Cavaliers, for exactly the reason you state. They were just regular guys, unexceptional except in their values and their willingness to serve. It’s why as an adult this cap meant so much to me that I had to acquire it.
