I donā€™t even think of the little glyphs on boards and forums as being avatars. To me an avatar is something interactive which moves, which I can communicate and sense through. Like a player model in a video game, basically. An avatar in Second Life is an avatar. These are just cute little pictures.

I donā€™t want to downgrade! In the 90s an avatar was virtual reality, but in the 00s itā€™s just a little inert stamp! The newer use seems worse, so pushing the 90s usage will hopefully yield something more robust and progressive. I donā€™t fuss about it too much, but there is some reasoning behind my peculiarities.

Not sure how popular it was, but have you ever played the app game Llama or Duck? It it hilarious.

Space Moose avatar ainā€™t goin nowhere until a new character bursts forth. And the powers that be can see that the avatar already encompasses the truth of my childhood where I sometimes wished I could be an orphan.
