He was very aware of how reassuring children find consistency and repitition. OTOH, I remember being upset when the set for King Friday’s castle changed. Likewise I was bewildered when Oscar the Grouch changed color.

Oscar was conceived magenta by Henson. There are no photos, only drawings.
He was orange colored for his first season on TV.
Then he vacationed in Swamp Mushy Muddy, doing some awful unlawful stuff and some trolling.
He returned from the swamp to Sesame Street’s second season presumably smelly and changed to a icky greenish color.
Possibly because of his trolling.

Mr. Rogers lived in a totally different hood.
