Columbusâ true identity and ethnic background have remained a bone of contention among scholars for centuries.
Although purportedly buried in Spain (due to his explorations having been funded by the Crowns of Spain), he has traditionally been claimed to have been a native of Genoa, in Italy.
This hasnât stopped countries like the Dominican Republic from claiming to be the final resting place of Columbusâ remains, and it hasnât stopped wider speculation that his origins might be found as far afield as Hungary or Poland.
Many (including this writer), have wondered if Columbus may in fact have been of Jewish background, and chose to keep this quiet due to the Jewish, Romani, and Moorish Muslim expulsions taking place in Catholic Iberia during the 1490s.
It is already certain that Columbus included Jewish translators and Ciganos (Iberian Gypsies) among his expedition members. Remember that he was aiming to find a route to China and the East Indies, where he expected to encounter Jewish merchants.
Whatever comes of todayâs announcement, it will remain an historical fact that Columbus was a wealth, status, and power-seeking scoundrel who brought nothing but pain, torture, disease, slavery, death, and genocide to the indigenous Taino people of the island he would rename âHispaniolaâ - the modern Dominican Republic and Haiti.

The girls were told to do the bear crawls and crab walks for a mile, but most werenât able to continue after two laps due to the pain, some even got physically sick from it. The girls said the punishment happened on Wednesday afternoon at around 2 p.m. One of the parents went to the track to check the temperature that afternoon and said it was at least 125 degrees.
âWe told her our hands are burning, and she said she didnât care, and she made us go back down on the track,â one of the cheerleaders, who asked to remain anonymous, said.
According to the parents, the coach threatened the girlsâ future careers in cheer if they didnât complete the punishment. Afterward, some girls went to see the school nurse, but still, they said they didnât get a call from the school about their daughtersâ injuries. The cheerleaders ended up with first and second-degree burns. At least one cheerleader was seen at the University Medical Center burn unit.

Sadly, there is no sport with a monopoly on sadistic coaches. The profession seems to attract assholes. There are, of course, some that sre great. I got to experience both ends of that spectrum in my athletic career. The assholes do tend to leave marks, though.

Iâve never liked TYT, but used to occasionally watch segments of theirs and even in that limited viewership, I noticed a change in their coverage of things. My guess is their viewership has declined over the years and they finally took a payout.
