Ignorance is a hell of a drug, and it is fed by a fact-free right wing media environment. Gonna be a long year…
They’ve willfully misinterpreted the VA Governor’s declaration of the state of emergency, too. He banned all weapons at the Capitol, from sharp sticks up to and including assault rifles, but the ammosexuals only focussed on their inability to intimidate people with their firearms.
The undercover officer arranged to meet with Lane, who told him “his plan was to kill two high-ranking Antifa members,” a married couple who lived nearby.
“Lane believed killing the couple would ultimately send the right message and show that the previous actions taken by antifascists like VICTIM 1 and VICTIM 2, such as doxing white supremacists, would not continue to go unpunished,” the affidavit says.
I’m sure that their crazy wall of Antifa structure and connections would be interesting. (Probably online rather than a physical one. Pity.)
eta: Nice to see that the FBI was paying attention to this group of white supremacists.
It is remarkable that the FBI paid attention to white supremacists. Goes to show that rank and file government employees are still trying to keep the ship running, even as the captain steers into the nearest iceberg.
I notice they were using an encrypted app, but what brought them down was plain old infiltration.
I wonder if they would have been watching this group as closely if they hadn’t caught wind of the Canadian guy crossing illegally. Score one for CBP? So that leaves them at -1,125,821.
Thread:
The American-conservative-owned Toronto Sun is backing Ford’s disrupt, defund, degrade, and privatize with bogus news stories. Unsurprising.
The problem, though, is that the rank and file have been ignoring this problem, for years. A good example is actually from that recent Spike Lee movie, set in the 70s (based on a real life event, where a black cop infiltrates the KKK in Colorado), where at the end of film, he’s told to close the case (happened in the book too), and destroy his files (which he ended up saving some of).
The fact that they are becoming so visible and emboldened shows that they’ve been able to fly under the radar for a while now. I do think they are finally giving the white supremacist problem the attention it deserves, but only because of Charlottesville and other high profile events involving these groups. They should have had these under watch for decades now… anyone who has spent any time in punk circles in the 80s and 90s, for example, KNEW that these guys were out there, and building networks, because they inevitably showed up at shows in order to try and recruit disaffected young men and to fight with the anti-fascist punks.
On William Barr and his dangerous, racist ideology rooted in the works of Carl Schmitt, a nazi jurist who apparently became fashionable again in the 90s and early 2000s:
“boys will be boys”
Not, repeat not to be confused with
(Which my brain did when scrolling through the comments just now.)
Charlie Pierce nails it. Maureen Dowd has managed to secure the newspaper of record as a platform for working through her personal psychodramas.
Yes, very different people! The article doesn’t confuse the two, though, so no worries there (this Schmid is not mentioned, in fact).
It is worth noting where the current administration is pulling their ideological framework from, because of these very troubling connections.
So that’s why they got rid of Daniel Dale. Can’t have Ford enemy #1 on the payroll.
See correction below.
Didn’t he work for the Toronto Star, not the Toronto Sun?
Right. My bad.
MOD Note re Jeremy Christian: Claiming it was the victims fault for trying to stop a racist tirade (which, implicitly suggests stabbing someone who shoves you is ok) doesn’t fly here for multiple reasons.
