I generally start with PRONE and SQUID, to check off four vowels and look for final place Es.

I’ve got a friend who plays on their own personal hard mode - they always try yesterday’s word as the first guess.

My go-to starters are AMUSE and OPINE, but I’m searching for a follow-up that doesn’t end in E and also knocks off as many RSTLN consonants as possible.

This gentleman suggests “BRINK, CADGY, WHELM, and POUTS [or SPOUT]. Those four words include all the letters except F and the uncommon J, Q, V, X, and Z”

A comment on that blog post suggests STINK, PROUD, and GLEAM. I tried STINK on an archive game and immediately decided not to use the other words.
