Killer bees? I suppose if any breed of carnivorous bee saw even a modest jump in birth rates, they’d be munching on alll that meat on the hoof out there. I mean us. We’re the tasty, nearly defenseless meat walking around.

They were about as communist then as they are capitalist now. There has always been power brokers running that place.

That sketch aired in 1994 1995. One of the many things I loved about that brief period at “the end of history” in the early 1990s was how much fun it was to believe that both Soviet apparatchiks and right-wing American loons were no longer relevant.

How is there not a killer bees clip, from Doc Hollywood, on youtube?

Nope, it didn’t air in 1994. This is from season 5, episode 11, air date: February 1, 1995. The fifth season started on October 5th, 1994 and ended on April 15, 1995, there were 21 episodes on that season.

How about Rudyard Kipling: “Make ye no truce with Adam-zad - the Bear that walks like a Man!”

Take out the laugh track, and he’d barely be distinguishable from a healthy segment of Youtubers, wouldn’t he? He makes me feel pretty good about my own monologuing skills.

Never much cared for Kids in the Hall myself. One of the few times I tuned in was when they had the bear sketch. Can’t say that’s aged well.

Remember when this was an absurd parody?

This reminds me of Christopher Walken’s last scene as Calvin in the movie Blast from the Past (the link shows that bit of dialogue):

That guy sounded kinda sarcastic…

… or maybe he just has a speech impediment.

Yeah, Seamus, this was as much a lampoon of capitalism as it was of communism, if not more so. If you doubt it, just look at Foley’s hair. It’s effing perfect!

I guess that means we should start preparing for a killer bee attack.

PREMISE BEACH!

Better is SCTV. They had Russia hijack their satellite system, because the owner of SCTV wouldn’t spring for the ‘scrambling box’ for their satellite system.

It’s filled with wonderful references. Even Uzbeks.
And John Candy as the friendly guy helping people “Here’s Yorgi”
