a recent article in the new yorker:
I don’t see how any hard-core Religionist could possibly be trusted to uphold their oath of office.
They will always put their twaddle* first; then their party (usually GOP)… the Constitution they swore to uphold is a distant third, if it is even regarded at all…
As far as I am concerned, people aren’t good because of their religion, they are good despite it.
*Usually a disguise for self-serving bullshit
ETA: Hawley wants to be Ayatollah of America. So does Cruz. Maybe someone should have them debate theology. Perhaps they would destroy each other, or at least split the GOP further.
One can dream…
The evangelicals think Trump is their Cyrus the Great
Yeah Jesuits are some of the best teachers. I went to High School with Jesuit teachers.
And yet there are States where atheists are technically barred from holding office.
Don’t get me wrong, that’s still far too many people. But I think even Nixon had some support when he resigned.
To add the confusion, they co-oped a number of Pagan gods and made them saints, although I think they’ve scrubbed most of those in modern times.
Trump as Hawley’s rotting Emperor in his failing Golden Throne?
I was thinking something about heresy. Weird how many MAGAts fantasize about living in a Grimdark universe.
To be fair, the holy trinity does sound pretty bullshitty, but even nontrinitarians are stuck with it.
It is the logical end to the vibrant God Emperor Trump memes.
Well, there’s 5’10” of me, dunno how many square inches that is, that I can categorically state he’s not Lord over.
I have my own personal idea about how the universe works, and how my insignificant self impinges on it - insignificantly.
I guess as far as that asshole’s concerned, that makes me some sort of heretic. Oh goody!
This thread and seeing what this senator supposedly believes reminds me of the writings of Joseph Campbell, and how my infatuation with Star Wars got me into reading all four books of the Masks of God series. I suspect Books 3 and 4, Occidental Mythology and Creative Mythology come into play more, because his particular mythology revolves around self-justification. A usage of mythology as a sort of Appeal to Authority logical fallacy.
I kind of get why “Neo-medeiaeval” fits as a description, because it is an appeal to an imagined early form of the Christian mythology, but is about as accurate as the 19th century Romantics’ ideas of noble barbarians. Much like the Neo-Gothic architecture of the late 1800s has nothing to do with actual architecture of the 12th to 15th century it supposedly idealises. It is kitsch masquerading as philosophy.
I thought that the God Emperor thing came from Dune:
The Trump God Emperor memes come from Warhammer 40K, from people who either don’t realise that it is satire and want to make it a reality, or they do realise and don’t care.
Why the fuck would anyone want to live in the Warhammer 40k universe is well beyond me.
I didn’t realise that Trumpists used it unironically.
It’s the rule of goats again
I wasn’t aware that Trumpists used it ironically either.
It was more 4/8chan, r/T_D and it’s offshoots. They are part of Trump’s flotilla, so they can sink with the rest of his ships.
