The Ongoing Gallery of Trump-Inspired Assholes

Given how powerful it is to add a state of one’s own creation to the Senate, you’d think it would take some kind of supermajority, but they weren’t thinking like that back then

Pretty sure that many people would object to very small population territories or other forms of absorption into the union would get two senators and one congress person.

The R’s and the billionaires would make huge efforts to turn elections there. Like Marianna Islands or Guam or American Samoa. Especially those with a large military presence.

Beautiful!

Here are some more:

And this excellent point:

I think she’s partially right. I think the swift actions by law enforcement to begin rounding up people who participated in the insurrection played a big role in people deciding not to show up, too.

Now the US should follow suit - and ban several Trump administration officials from doing business in or with the United States…

This. While they do an impressive job of making it seem like there are many people, the reality is that there is a relatively small number of people active in these extremist groups. Part of why the on-the-ground assholes are predominantly wealthy individuals is that they travel all over pulling this shit. Once a significant number of the 1/6 insurrectionists are rounded up or on the lamb, suddenly there’s nary a Proud Boy to be found.

Right? It seems they actually believed that old BS “Turner Diaries” narrative, that some silent majority, especially in the military, was going to rise up and join them. It did not happen after Oklahoma, and it did not happen after 1/6, because there were consequences (in part).

Of course, I can’t also rule out that some people who had joined these groups in the Trump years were turned off by the storming of the capitol, but it’s hard to know if that was a minority of them or a majority, and as such what that means for a reconstitution of these movements on down the road. It will help if law enforcement really starts to take these groups as the threat they actually pose rather than treating BLM or leftist groups as the imminent threat they are clearly not.

Voice of America and all that. The one Trump threatened to recess Congress if they didn’t okay his appointment.

Right. I spent a bit of time reporting racists on Twitter at the turn of the year. There were a dispiriting number of comments. I gave up after I realised ALL of them I could find were single use sock puppets, ie a small number of people taking instructions from the fash’s Gab account. Deliberately setting out to cause maximum hurt.

Did Gorka leave already?

There are probably legions of shitposters on the internet, but thankfully few with the means, desire, and lack of impulse control to do anything.

the trick is not going to be passage so much as writing a new voting rights act which will make it past the supremes. even if roberts would be willing to admit he was laughably optimistic about the state of racist america in shelby county vs holder there are now two more justices to his right than there were before.

I think Brazil would be more open to them this time around

I think the solution is basically to eliminate the “special case” of only having certain states targeted by the pre-clearence rules (which is why they got thrown out, because Roberts specifically thought we fixed racism in the South, so the special rules were “unfair” to those states). Just make everybody have to clear voting rule changes through the Justice Department. It’s not like there haven’t been other states pulling shitty shenanigans with their voting regulations this whole time…

It’s also obviously needed outside “The South” as it’s just as bad in Wisconsin and other states outside the “pre-clearance” states.
