The Pinkertons' plan for climate change: a mercenary army that guards one-percenters as the seas rise

And let’s remember what happened to him and Immortan Joe;

So… that Netflix series sci fi dystopia “Altered Carbon” where the rich live high above the sea rise they created with a mercenary army wasn’t far off.

Welcome to dystopia right?

People will never act above there own selfish self interest, it’s kinda why government was created ironically.

“Their.”

And pessimistic defeatism solves no problems.

John Oliver in his last segment seems to think pessimism is healthy in creating systems that govern us all.

Yowsers - one of the libertarian protagonists has the Rand surname. Can we not get away from the crazy lady?

Exactly why our “elite” don’t care about doing anything about climate change and never will. It will inconvenience them at worst and doing nothing is the most profitable solution for them.
That’s the world’s greatest democracy ever for you: Always ignoring the will of the people.

Is Kim Stanley Robinson a prophet? I’m sure this was a subplot in New York 2140. Or am I just seeing parallels to novels everywhere today?

I’m sure the asshole rich employing these asshole Pinketons have already gamed out what to do once their guards have outlived their usefulness. It’ll be down to whoever’s quickest to pull the trigger.

America’s wealthiest have already bought out all the underground “climate change bunkers” that were built in Kansas - purchases that show a glaring lack of understanding of the actual problems they will face.

Pinkertons might be a more realistic solution to the problems the rich will face in the period of mass migration, poverty, war and terrorism that will begin in the next 10 years (really, it has already begun but by 2030 we will be wearing it like a noose).

Long-term, the global population is going to plummet rapidly down to 1 billion, maybe 2 if we use nuclear energy and geothermal energy sensibly. Much of that, we will apparently do to ourselves, fighting over the energy needed to maintain our populations (in various forms - food is made from energy, shelter is made with energy, water is cleaned with energy, diseases treated by it, etc etc), and at some point, law, order, national government and most especially laisse faire capitalism - which point blank does not work for shrinking populations - are going to go fuck themselves.

We’ll see how long the guys with the guns want to keep serving the formerly rich when they have nothing to pay them with.

After all, once the 99% are gone, someone has to be bottom of the heap
