…
the house is a bit much, but great location in the 6.
I watched at least the first two “series” (seasons) of this show… I must have missed something big.I don’t mind spoilers, let me know,
They’ve already bumped it back up another 6m; better stretch a littttttle farther.
Doesn’t feel like a home. Feels like City Hall. Also, no way that was built in the 17th century,; it’s in the style of 17th-century France.
I love how reliably the world proves how true the adage “money don’t buy taste” is.
“Taste” was conceived of and developed as a means of social control.
(see Tiersten, 2001)
Sure, but I’m also pretty certain that the concept of taste existed well before 19th century French consumerism and marketing.
Honestly, it’s not that crazy at that price.
I dunno, the price and tax history seems kind of random.

Yeah, she probably got a lot of it from Distinction: A Social Critique of the Judgement of Taste (Pierre Bourdieu), though as I’ve never read that work, I can’t be too certain.

Interestingly if I’m remembering correctly the mansion only makes brief appearances in two episodes: during the intro to S1E1, and during a couple of flashback scenes in S4E14.
Also worth noting, the motel exterior used in Schitt’s Creek is featured in the opening of History of Violence:
And it was apparently up for sale late last year:

Built 2012 according to this: Toronto, ON's 24,000 Sq. Ft. La Belle Maison Mansion Relists for $21.78M, Prev. $19.8M (PHOTOS) - Pricey Pads
Also, that’s on a 1/2 acre lot. Pretty funny. 24,000sf is just about a half acre. Sure, it’s multiple floors, but I always think your yard should be bigger than your house especially if you’re loaded.
Why so many 8s in the asking price?
The juxtaposition between this and the much more modest looking suburban homes just across the street is really quite jarring!
The digit 8, and especially a number with multiple 8s, is considered lucky in Chinese culture. Rich Chinese people, looking to cache money outside of China, are a prime market for high priced real estate in Canada.
A mansion that signifies wealth without taste, coupled with a pricetag that symbolizes auspiciousness without righteousness.
Who in their right mind would spend nearly 20 million on a good luck charm?
