as the rock zeitgeist returned to garage in the late 90s, some acquaintances of mine formed a really tight unit in the small-town hinterlands of Knoxville. I believe their activity pre-dated The Strokes release of Is This It but anyway right around then.
the real precedent afaik were The Murder City Devils who definitely predate The Strokes and who toured through Knoxville several times.
