I’m in the email biz.
The reason there are so many blocks on all .xyz domains is because it was next to free for some time, and all the SPAMers picked up and abused it so much, that it was literally #1 SPAM sender for years.
I don’t block on .xyz, and I see actual legit use now-a-days, but I can see why others would just take the easy filter, and literally block 95% of their inbound spam without wasting CPU cycles on further checks or heuristics.

Oh, I know what causes the issue, it just doesn’t cause enough problems to worry about it. We’re using it almost exclusively for registrations, newsletters, or things that go directly into /dev/null (e.g., the void account.)
