The film I want to see in another theatre.
Just kidding, this looks like it could be fun.
I’m not excited to see it, might wait until it’s streaming at least. I can’t verbalize why this feels uninspired and generic to me but it does, though i hope it turns out to be better than what the trailer makes it seem to be
After watching the Mario trailer, I was offered the new Transformers’ trailer; which looks to be an improvement on the Bay movies, in that the robots are more or less easily to differentiate; and the main human isn’t a white guy.
Yeah, not feeling like it’s inspired either.
Seems alright. The Bumblebee movie was actually pretty good, so maybe they’re finally figuring these out.
This looks to be shaping up like a Forrest Gump/Ready Player One nostalgia callout fest that no one really wanted, except about Mario.
Don’t get me wrong, because I love Mario, but not once have I ever thought “This deserves a 2-hour narrative.”

Beast Wars was probably my favorite of the Transformers incarnations, and I’m sadly old enough to remember when they were first here. It’s an interesting take that the aligned Transformers Aligned continuity is basically being replicated in live action form. The way the Bayformers transform isn’t my favorite, but I’m betting I’ll end up with a few of these on my shelf regardless.

To me, it was the Pratt. There’s a ton of old Mario game inspirations in there, but I hear Chris Pratt and it kicks me out of the story.
There’s only room for one Super Mario Bros movie in my heart…
It’s a movie made of ham, cheese, and a lot of behind the scenes alcohol and still 100% a great bad movie to watch.
The CGI Beast Wars show was both not-great and totally awesome. I don’t have any specific memories for how the show wrapped up but i do have a sense memory of really being into how it ended as a kid. The upcoming Transformers movie on the other hand stirs no nostalgic love from me, it might turn out to be decent but i’m not interested.
Judging by the trailer alone it looks like they came up with a list of things different people might know about Mario and shoved as much of it as they can into it. Mario Kart? Check. References to specific other games? It’s in there.
I mean i get it. I understand how these movies are made, but the end result of the movie we actually got seems utterly devoid of joyfulness. Ultimately i hope the actual movie is better than the impression i’m getting, but i’m not confident it will be.
Yeah. That’s kinda what I meant. The first Lego Movie - THAT is how you do something for a wide audience that absolutely lives and dies on its brand recognition and pop culture references without being just a montage of throwaway gags. And it had a wonderful story and message, to boot. “Eh, toss the instructions if you think up something cooler. It’s okay to be different.”
Beyond the movie itself it gave us these 18 seconds of pure joy. (I don’t know how many times I’ve seen this but Hoskins’ delivery makes me laugh every time.)
Is that the interview where he mentions that he and John were completely sloshed for probably 90% of the filming? It really makes a lot more sense.
I love it just for that Larry Ditillo magic - table top gaming guy makes the big time in Hollywood!
If Mojo Nixon doesn’t cameo a voice in the new one they have failed
To be honest I’ve only ever seen those 18 seconds. Anything more might spoil the perfection!
