The true story of “We Built This City”- the most detested song in human history

That is all.

True story;

I have banned my child from even humming that abomination in my presence.

Hey, hey, hey… what do you got against Tiny Tim? Even GG Allin was a fan!

How about… this?

You mean I wasn’t alone? Good Gods. If you tell me that you had to rig up a 30’ tall TV antenna just to pick up the only radio station in the area that played the show, I’m going to start wondering if we’re related. (The station was over 100 miles away - I picked it up one night as a sheer fluke and then did everything I could to get it as clear as possible.)

Archive … well, there’s www.drdemento.com, which is the current home of the show since it went off of radio broadcast. They do have shows available to purchase for streaming, but not for download. (Yeah, there are ways around that, of course.) The shows I have are mostly from Usenet newsgroup downloads with an occasional trade from a long-defunct archive.

True, but I referred to the accessibility of lyrics and music separately. If the lyrics are linguistically incomprehensible then I think it is just another form of music. I usually prefer music without any singing, with the exceptions mainly being those with people singing in other languages.

It was in response to @Daneyul’s comment about the lyrics requiring much thought. Which suggests interesting questions. If USians prefer not thinking about pop lyrics, then why not make pop music which is sung in other languages? Or even just other vocal sounds?

I think of music in terms of egalitarianism, so for me “access” is for anyone. But the term access is often used to suggest certain kinds of appeal. I suspect that there is something euphemistic about it. People still have access to music which isn’t to their taste - they simply choose to listen to something else.

I actually like hearing that in December… I feel so deviant for saying that.

It’s a nice counterpoint to “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)”.

Even if they’re kickin’ in the front seat? :innocent:

Not possible; I don’t have a car.

But even if I did, she’s a tween, and she knows way better than to incur the wrath of Mom.

You should! I’d sooner listen to “Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer” on a permanent loop.

I love that Grace Slick hates Starship and particularly hates this song. Motivated me to go listen to some Jefferson Airplane.

I never noticed this before, but Siouxsie Sioux must have listened to a lot of Grace Slick, there are a lot of similarities.

Oh and also, this thread makes my ears bleed, you should all be ashamed of yourselves.

Wow, think of the cover possibilities…

As to “We Built This City,” hey, it was better than the same band’s “Sara”

No shame here; I posted Joan & Queen.

Also, Jefferson Airplane is the only kind of Grace Slick I’ll listen to.

I actually clicked on that because it had been so long since I’d heard it…as I was smarter when younger than now (apparently) so I knew to turn it off back then.

Oh yeah, it’s still that same song.

Every album since New Traditionalists was written on a bad day.

IMHO, MTV launched their career into the stratosphere, but the weight of commercialism sent them plummeting down.

wasn’t this proved by Perelman who famously rejected the Fields Medal for this mathematical breakthrough?
