According to Germany’s mass-circulation [expletive deleted] newspaper, a student attacked fellow pupils with a knife. Five people were injured, according to police, as well as a suspect who was arrested at the scene.

Developing story.

Bild is an expletive in German? I thought it meant “picture”

Glad they also went for “infamy” in their translation. I still think mine is closer to the original in spirit, though

Bild is a publication of craven infamy. It is wrong to read it. Anyone contributing to this newspaper is entirely unacceptable to society. It would be a mistake to be nice towards one of its editors, or even to be polite. One has to be as unfriendly towards them as the law just about allows. They are bad people who do wrong.

I thought for a second Wuppertal was in southern France. That pin symbology is confusing

If only

On the other hand, going without rain for more than a fortnight or so feels just wrong. And a little bit creepy.

Fun fact: my best friend’s mother was instrumental in getting Chicago twinning with cities around the world. Unfortunately, I had no input, or Wuppertal would have cracked at least one city in North America!

Cowpox (CPXV) at the Zoo!
The vector probably was feed animals bought from external suppliers; I read this as rodents.
So far there have been cases amongst the collared peccaries, the meerkats and “one of the big cats”. Cats can catch cowpox, it’s the same virus.
The enclosures for big cats and small cats are closed, as is the petting zoo, just in case.
(The way the peccary and meerkat enclosures are designed there’s enough distance between the occupants and the visiting primates.)

If it’s rodents, why haven’t the snakes been affected? Too far removed, zoologically speaking, from the disease?

No idea. Maybe the snakes didn’t get any of that batch.

Bad weather (again), good pictures this year.

“Citywide blackout” is complete bollocks, though. I live in the neighbouring district and all that happened was the lights flickering once very, very briefly. All the electronic thingies shrugged this off and kept on running. Looks like the emergency procedures work.

The radio says it was one of those metallic party balloon that had drifted into a substation and caused a nice arc between two lines.

Points failure at the depot, Schwebebahn not running for a couple of hours.

This will completely ruin my plans.
