These photos of a pandemic drive-thru strip club are pure cyberpunk dystopia

Always watch the movie - never buy the movie theater hot dog.

i dunno. You say post apocalyptic dystopia. I call it off-season burning man. Can’t we split the difference?

I’m reminded of the time (has it been 30 years already?) when Paul Reubens was arrested for masturbating in a porno theater. I think it was on the David Letterman show that David brought up that arrest, and shared his wonderment as to why Reubens didn’t just watch the stuff on his VCR.

Great question!

Oh come on you know

As someone who lives in the Portland-Metro Area, it’s not surprising to see something like this emerge during times like this, and I am surprised by how novel it appears to be for other people. That being said, I’m not a fan that they now have to work outside like this to make sure they can still make a living. The standard operating procedures of their jobs just got a lot more difficult and there doesn’t appear to be better compensation for this added job difficulty. Maybe the Lucky Lounge is an Employee-Owned business, or they provide great insurance benefits, but I doubt it.

I think this story doesn’t highlight ingenuity in times like this, but shows there’s a flaw in the system that can be figured out and fixed.

Blue laws regarding stripping in Portland are actually quite lax here, possibly as a reaction to much more restrictive ones on the other side of the Oregon Washington border, which is the reason we are the arguable strip club capital of the USA. The food is actually a byproduct of them having a liquor license (Thanks OLCC), not the titties.

We have a number of strip clubs well known for their food, including several owned by a man who also owns a beef ranch, as well as more than one vegan strip clubs, because Portland. Amusingly, one of the Steak and Titty bars is right across from one of the Vegan Titty bars, and there’s also figurative beef between the two clubs, along side the literal beef.

Exactly!

I think it is easier for people to understand the knock on economic effects on restaurants, cafes and the hospitality industries, but behind every dancer/ musician/ performer in venues small to large there are so many people and businesses effected.

Pretty much overnight all people in the live events sound and lighting and staging industries lost everything: small to large operators and hire companies; roadies, riggers, drivers, IT and logistics, set builders, caterers, venue personnel etc. etc.

Stripping is protected free speech in Oregon thanks to State vs Henry which prevented the outlawing of obscenity in the state. The Oregon Encylopedia has a good article explaining this.

(And hey this is my old neighborhood).
