I will say, as someone who absolutely agrees with the correct way to turn the roll – the first image – that if you have cats in the house, then hanging the roll backwards is actually correct, or else the TP will be a torn-up pile on the floor!

As someone who puts toilet paper in bathrooms for a living the yes version is also the correct version so you can do this.

I hate that, because it means someone’s hands have been all over my TP after cleaning the bathroom. First thing I do when I see it, say in a hotel, is waste the paper by tearing it off and back a few sheets at least just to be sure.

I agree, and it’s why I normally reclean my hotel bathroom and all surfaces I touch (light switches, phone, door handles, faucets, and the remote, especially the remote) before getting comfortable.
But when a customer wants the tp folded that’s what I do.
