American University’s faculty senate took a strong stand against book banning recently. Good on them.
As an author whose Twitter mystery novel “Executive Severance” was initially banned by the NYC Queens Library system, I concur that a Banned Book Week is still a good idea. Sometimes books are excluded because of their ideas and sometimes books are excluded because they don’t fit the current definition of “literature.”
If somebody wants to ban a text, make a copy. If you aren’t brave enough to upload and openly share it, nothing wrong, it’s good enough if you just sit on it and maybe give a copy to a trusted friend or two. Enough people doing this and the censors won’t win.
