I went to 2 or 3 cons in the early 90s. They were so quaint compared to today’s. But the more, the merrier.
I went to a late '70s con at Hotel Commodore in NYC. Very cool to see the vaunted Blooper Reel. In the merch area, a seller had built much-coveted and highly expensive (and probably unlicensed) phaser replicas (20 years before they became commonplace). And overall there was this foolish and desperate hope, that Star Trek would persist.
One of the guys in the Star Trek club I was in was a model builder, and he had screen accurate replicas that worked better than the real props (according to some original cast members.)
When I put together an air speeder, he made me this replica of refueling sled after I gave him a copy of a concept sketch of it from one of my RPG books. I still have it!
