The fact that the hippocampi are so involved with both memory and spatial awareness makes so much sense of why the Method of loci (aka mind palace technique) can be effective; building an imaginary place you can walk through in your mind to find mnemonics you’ve put in various locations.

I’m rereading John Crowley’s Little, Big - one of my all-time favorite novels - and this sort of Art of Memory is woven throughout the book.
