Although it’s by no means an efficient mode of transport, it is certainly one cool coupe.
ETA: I bet you the drivers seat is like a living room recliner. Delightful!
Parallel parking level: god-mode.
My uncle had one of these only it was the 4 door sedan. He handed it down to my cousin who drove it all through high school. We could fit the entire cheerleading squad into it (and yes, we tried)
A perfectly flat slabular rectangle - it doesn’t get any more Land Barge than that.
My father had one from around that time, in gold, with an 8-track player for his Barry White albums. I recall the bench front seat I sat beside him on (no seatbelt, natch) being some velour-like material.
Still has vestigial fins in the design!
Would make for a super cool electric conversion with PLENTY of room to cram the batteries and dual motors etc. You could freak people out with its fast, quiet acceleration.
It burned a gallon of gasoline just to drive it out of the garage.
It’s a five-body trunk, surely!
I had a friend in high school who inherited the family’s '76 LTD, it was the less fancy version of this car. It was enormous, drove like a total land yacht.
My brother bought one of those a few years ago, at a quite reasonable price. It was beautiful! Gaudy green shag carpeting on the door panels, etc.
However, it had an issue wherein the engine would stop running every now and then due to vapor lock. He sold it for a quite reasonable price a few weeks later. He’s a good mechanic, but this one was not worth messing with.
One does not so much park as dock one of these bad boys.
“I got me a Chrysler. It seats about 20…”
Yeah, that thing is exactly what I would have called a land-boat. Grew up with one of these guys. My sisters and I would fight over who got to sit in the rear-facing trunk seat. Completely unsafe, but fun, fun as the times were.
Back when I was a kid (that same era) I had a fascination with the Lincoln Continentals with the little oval window in the hard top. Damned if I know why. Maybe I saw one in a movie and was impressed.
Yes! My buddy drove one of these in high school. The seats were so cushy and comfortable that it made you feel dirty. And you could fit so many bodies in the trunk!
