This personal AC cleans and dehumidifies the air as it cools

If you’re in an area where one of these things would actually be useful, i’d imagine you’d probably want one that could at least do something like a bed room.

False advertising, as many have said - the description is fulls of lies. AND Boing Boing has run this before, and all this has been pointed out before - so they are intentionally lying to us.

This humidifies, and is just a tarted up swamp cooler / desert cooler (the name depends on what part of the US you are in). They only work in a very dry climate. It’s not an air conditioner except in the very loosest sense.

You can get similar little evaporative coolers on Amazon for a lot less. At Boing Boing, you’re paying for false information and hype. Boing Boing needs to be much more honest about their products.

“Tarted up Swamp Cooler” is my new stage name as a drag queen. Thanks for that.

Just as leaving your refrigerator door open will only make the room hotter, so will this device.

Single hose portable air conditioners blow the conditioned room air over the hot condenser and then blow it outside. thus, air gets sucked into the room from the rest of your house. and then hot air from outside is sucked into your house. They don’t dehumidify at all and they just cycle hot air through your house.

the twin-hose ones, which seem to be only available online and at midsize capacities and up, are supposed to be much better as they suck outside air in, blow it over the condenser, and then back outside. meanwhile your room air is conditioned inside your room.

yup. thats basically what the guy in that video says.

No, in a very dry climate it will both cool the room and make it more humid. That’s just a property of water evaporation. A normal air conditioner would make the room hotter, but it’s not an air conditioner as the term is usually used.

It dehumidifies (headline) AND humidifies (your comment)?

I’d push back on that because of the false advertising. Such policies do not legally apply to fraud, and typically the credit card companies will back you up on item not as described merchandise if you do a chargeback - and most companies do not want to risk chargebacks.

The headline is lying, as others have pointed out. It’s an evaporation cooler, by definition it can’t dehumidify, because it evaporates water into the air to cool it.
