It seems to be that the style guide for every vintage American documentary going back to the 1930s demands that “robot” be pronounced as “ruh-but”.

Did they get Wendy Carlos to score this segment?

Also, I find it fascinating that Coronet Films was owned by Esquire.

I’m curious if anyone here ever trick-or-treated at a house that gave out “Chick Tracts” instead of candy. I’ve heard this idea passed around but never met anyone who could verify it happened to them or someone they knew.

I remember getting this one when I was a kid, but I don’t think it was handed out instead of candy, it just appeared inside our screen door in October, I think the entire neighborhood got these.

That can’t beat this old McDonalds commercial for reflective safety cuffs for trick or treaters (at 8:05)

I have an entire folder of image captures from chick tracts, which are mildly amusing out of context. some examples:

If you happen to be in a sharing mood, I would love a folder like that.

I would love to share! I’ll do so later today after work.

You rule!

I used to collect Chick Tracts, but vowed never to pay for them (I did attempt to fool Chick Inc. into sending a free sampler pack to an invented church at my home address, but no luck.)

here is my favorite out-of-context Chick tract image:

I believe this was actually edited too, the original comic says “Jesus was a communist, you know.”

i collect/collected them, too. i used to just find them here and there, and that was part of the fun of collecting them. i still have them, too…somewhere…

One of the child actors in the 1977 edition grew up to be a creator of fabulous Halloween mix CDs and out-there music videos.

I remember getting little evangelical comic books trick or treating in the early 70s. I don’t think they were by Jack Chick, though. They weren’t very weird, just kind of goofy.

It makes me feel very old that this outdated video about trick or treating was released after I was too old to go trick or treating.

I think this one is my favorite. THINK OF THE HOMOSEXUALS

at least they’re viewable online and free to download (and screenshot out of context). Chick’s website got a facelift not long ago. Fancy. https://www.chick.com/

The safety tips are solid advice, well except for the ‘stranger danger’ for tampered candy.

Awesome! Thank you  these are great!
