I’m not trying to be a killjoy, but these kind of alternate investments rarely return enough to make the risk worthwhile. 1978-2024 is a long frikkin’ time, and that money invested in an S&P500 index fund would be just shy of $3.4 million today. The risk of the dime being lost, stolen, or turning out to not be quite the right one to have increased in value so much seems way too high to return so much less than a conservative stock index.
