I saw the 1996 one! I can only remember three things about it:
a new student at the school complaining that she’d rather learn computer programming
The headteacher appearing behind one of the other teachers and saying “Did you forget I was the one who taught you to appear out of nowhere?”
and a ghost who really wanted some crumpets (which is understandable)
