To heck with the CDC — Marjorie Taylor Greene promotes swigging raw milk

MTG should absolutely drink all the raw milk she wants. Keep rolling those dice, Marjorie! Sooner or later the rest of us will get lucky.

That may be what the far-right think, but I can’t help thinking of Hugh Dennis and his Mr Strange character whenever this subject comes up.

The MAGA cocktail: A brimming glass of raw milk, mixed with bleach and a sprig of Ivermectin. Enjoy while unloading a full magazine into a case of Bud Light, to own the libs.

Fair point!

I wish she actually followed half of the risky behavior she encourages. Her luck surely couldn’t be that good.

I doubt Marge does any of the stuff she promotes.

But taw milk seems to be the latest rally cry.

Dairy was a hot topic this weekend for Republicans, who only seem to be getting weirder, as Trump invited a QAnon conspiracy theorist to speak at his Butler, Pennsylvania, rally alongside Elon Musk on Saturday.

“We will protect your raw milk,” said Scott Presler of Gays for Trump, in attempt to court the Amish vote in the swing state.

I for one, would keep encouraging her to drink raw milk just for the lulz alone

How European of them! Somehow I don’t think they will like that label…

I remember a few years back (or maybe more than a few) that raw milk was also the “new” thing in wellness-woo-GOOPy-type circles. (Pun intended.) The New Yorker had a whole article on dairy farmers (often Amish, IIRC) having secret-not-really-secret sales of it to people who didn’t want “chemicals” in their body. (The secret part happened when they talked to people who were buying it in states where it was illegal to do so.) There was, at least anecdotally, also a pretty large overlap with people who decided vaccines were “chemicals they didn’t want in their bodies.”

Raw milk makes strange bedfellows. Bedfellows with extreme intestinal distress.

There’s so much in those few words, my head wants to unscrew. Gays for Trump, who has said he wants to jail and/or kill anyone who is not cis, and ‘courting the Amish vote’? Basically so desperate to get another vote or two that you have to bother the folks who are just living off the grid?

I’m not wishing harm on anyone, per se.
But I AM hoping vigorously that “natural consequences” follow MTG.

You’re assuming that Gays for Trump is trans-inclusive. I don’t know about the US, but here in the UK self-styled “LGB” activists, who reject any connection between the gay and trans communities, are a big part of the “gender-critical” community.

There are well over 80,000 Amish people in Pennsylvania. It’s been a while since they were completely off the grid (source–I grew up right next to a very large Amish community in western PA). Their ties with the Mennonites, who are generally less restricted, means they know what’s going on in the community and often do business with “the English.” One of my dad’s best small engine repair guys was Amish, and that’s very-not-allowed, at least officially. I can’t say if Vance’s theocratic leanings would hold any appeal to them or not, but depending on how squiggly-wiggly the districts are drawn, they could absolutely make a difference.

The local Amish community has been very much leaning in a trumpian direction, and the raw milk thing is likely a small part of the appeal. They’re traditionally apolitical but in recent years have been drawn in predominantly by the Xtianity evangelical angle in a way that is disturbing. Seeing people I’ve been doing business with for years, who were always disconnected from politics, start to join the scrum on what I see as the wrong side is more than a little concerning. They’re definitely not a small percentage of eligible voters around me. I guess the only saving grace for my mental health is that my immediate vicinity was going to go for the orange menace anyways…this just makes dems an even smaller minority in my area.

Interesting. I thought they would be generally apolitical, but you two have given me some food for thought. Thanks!
